The motion
That this House recognises Greenock's first Member of Parliament, Robert Wallace, and his contribution to the success of the Royal Mail; notes his important role in initiating the campaign for cheap postage, and the resulting reform of the postal service, reduction of corruption, and more accessible services for people across the UK and Ireland; further recognises his chairmanship of the parliamentary committee that examined the penny postage scheme; further notes that this deciding vote led to that scheme being put forward to Parliament and to the postal service we have today; and congratulates all past and present Royal Mail staff as they mark 500 years of operation.
