INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL MEALS DAY

That this House welcomes the celebration of the fourth International School Meals Day on 3 March 2016; commends the work that schools across the globe are doing to raise awareness of the importance of the nutritional quality of school meal programmes and healthy eating; congratulates Children in Scotland which manages the scheme, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly and the US Department of Agriculture for supporting the initiative; notes with concern the drastic contrast between the attitudes towards school meals from the Scottish Government, which has recently introduced free school meals for children in Primary 1 to 3, and the Government which has announced the withdrawal of £32.5 million for Universal Infant Free School Meals, which will result in the loss of subsidies for 2,687 small primary schools in England.
