SWANSEA

That this House notes its appreciation of Swansea and her people; further notes that Swansea is the birthplace of world renowned poet Dylan Thomas, global star Catherine Zeta-Jones and one of the world's greatest footballers, John Charles, and that it is founded on the copper industry known as Copperopolis; acknowledges that Swansea also is home to the most exciting and elegant football team in the Premiership, Swansea City FC, and is neighbour to the beautiful Gower peninsula with its world renowned beaches; notes that it is home to the delicious Joe’s Ice Cream, second only to Franks of the Amman Valley and is home to the picturesque St Helen's cricket ground where Sir Garfield Sobers in 1968 hit the first six sixes in an over in first class cricket; commends the resolve of the people of Swansea who rebuilt the city after the blitz; and deplores the comments of a spokesperson on behalf of the Labour Party in The Sun newspaper who described the City as a little place and a nest of vipers.
