DIABETES EDUCATION IN LEICESTER, LEICESTERSHIRE AND RUTLAND

That this House is concerned that the Type 2 diabetes education contract in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has been awarded to a pharmaceutical company Spirit Healthcare; is interested to determine how Spirit Healthcare's EMPOWER programme improves on the education of the current programme, DESMOND; notes that DESMOND is the leading diabetes education programme for Type 2 diabetics in the UK; further notes that DESMOND was developed in Leicester by the Diabetes Research team at the Leicester Diabetes Centre; and urges Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), West Leicestershire CCG and East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG to publish a report on the procurement process and its outcome.
