HILLSBOROUGH INQUEST FINDINGS

The motion
That this House welcomes the decision of the jury which has sat for more than two years considering the evidence on the Hillsborough disaster; notes that the judgment completely exonerates the Liverpool supporters who attended the match of any blame; is disgusted by the actions of senior officers in the South Yorkshire police who sought to deflect any criticism of their culpability onto innocent victims; expects the CPS to ensure that police officers are held to account for presiding over this terrible tragedy; believes that those officers and individuals who falsified witness statements should be prosecuted; and reflects with sadness that if those responsible for allowing the tragedy to occur had admitted their mistakes and accepted responsibility at the very beginning, then the families and friends of the 96 people who died could have been spared a 27-year struggle for the truth to come out instead of having to endure the suffering which they have been put through.
