The motion

That this House recognises Mental Health Awareness Week 2016, which runs from 16 May until 22 May 2016; notes that this is an awareness campaign dedicated to highlighting sufferers of mental health problems, looking particularly at how relationships are essential to maintaining good mental health; acknowledges that mental illness is one of the major public health challenges in the UK, whereby around one in three people in Scotland and one in four people in England are estimated to be affected by such illnesses in any one year; commends charities, such as the Mental Health Foundation, the Scottish Association for Mental Health, SANE and many others, that work to support sufferers of mental health issues; recognises that the Scottish Government will now implement a new 10 year plan to transform mental health and invest an additional £150 million to improve mental health services; and calls on the UK Government to ensure that services are fully equipped to deal with the increasing problem of mental health that is affecting many people across the UK.
