The motion
That this House believes that the nation owes a great debt of gratitude to ex and serving members of our armed forces, their families and local communities who bear the brunt of their role; accepts that the unique nature of military life brings with it many challenges which need to be both recognised and better understood by citizens, especially regarding the injured and bereaved who may need the provision of extra support; calls on Government departments, local and regional authorities and appropriate charities to help meet their needs as outlined by the Armed Forces Covenant; and pays tribute to the Royal British Legion and its sister charity, Poppy Scotland, who have called on the governments of the UK, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales to include in all future censuses the inclusion of questions about serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their dependants in order to produce and identify the necessary information and statistics to provide a comprehensive overview of their ongoing role in society.
