TRIDENT REPLACEMENT

The motion

That this House notes that the Queen's Speech contained a reference to plans to secure the long-term future of the Trident nuclear weapons system; further notes that figures show that the estimated lifetime cost of Trident replacement is at least £205 billion; is concerned that the funds spent on nuclear weapons will do nothing to address the threats set out in the National Security Strategy and breaches the UK's obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty; and calls on the Government to abandon plans to replace Trident, to invest in sustainable jobs for those currently employed on Trident replacement projects and to reallocate the remaining funds to other government departments.
