CARRICK RUGBY SHIELD VICTORY

That this House congratulates Carrick Rugby Club on its victory against Highland/Inverness in a tense day at Murrayfield for the BT Shield; recognises the club is one of the few in Scotland to offer a comprehensive rugby section of the curriculum at a state owned school; acknowledges the partnership that Carrick Rugby has with the local school of Carrick Academy, and its use of the Modern Apprenticeship Programme in providing employment opportunities to school leavers; notes that Carrick Academy provides the rugby club and its employees with access to classes and a working base, as well as an office and ICT support; and commends the work of the senior club which sees pupils being able to engage in the sport from Primary One right up until the First 15s, giving them access to a means of sport through their school life and beyond.
