FUTURE OF FORT GEORGE MILITARY BASE

That this House notes that Fort George, home of the historic Black Watch, has been in continuous use as a garrison for almost 250 years; recognises its importance as both a military base and as a heritage attraction that welcomes 55,000 visitors a year; is concerned about the potential impact of proposals to cut the site from the Ministry of Defence estate on the local area and wider Highland economy; and calls on the Government to ensure that Fort George continues to serve the Highlands and the country for many years to come.
