PROPOSED WITHDRAWAL OF 4/4A BUS SERVICE IN GLASGOW

That this House notes with concern proposals by bus operators First Greater Glasgow to amend the route of the 4/4a service in the city from 23 October 2016 which will involve the withdrawal of the service from Kelvindale, Jordanhill, Knightswood, Anniesland, Eaglesham and Crookfur; further notes that these plans represent a withdrawal of any direct service between Kelvindale and the city centre, and a significant reduction in the services available from Eaglesham and Crookfur; believes that these reductions will have a significant impact on the ability of local residents to access services including schools, health centres and shopping areas; notes the serious concerns expressed by Kelvindale Community Council about the impact of the changes particularly on older people and school pupils in the area; congratulates local campaigners who have started online petitions to save the route which have attracted over 2,500 signatures; welcomes the range of proposals and suggestions made by local residents to maintain the service; and calls on First Greater Glasgow, Strathclyde Passenger Transport, Glasgow City Council, and East Renfrewshire Council to work together to ensure that the current level of service and direct links to local services and the city centre provided by the 4/4a is maintained.
