GOOD MONEY WEEK 2016

The motion
That this House welcomes Good Money Week 2016, which runs between 30 October 2016 and 5 November 2016 and aims to raise awareness of sustainable, responsible and ethical finance to help people make good money choices; recognises that the sustainable investment market currently represents £1.5 trillion assets under management; notes that research commissioned by the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association found that 69 per cent of people asked were in favour of a new law requiring financial advisors to ask all customers if they would like to exclude specific sectors or companies; acknowledges that 63 per cent of the UK backs a label to identify ethical or sustainable financial products; further notes that 60 per cent of the UK believes that the financial sector can make high returns while investing ethically and responsibly; further recognises that sustainable, ethical and responsible finance allows individuals to have a positive effect on the environment and society without sacrificing the financial performance of their investments; and urges the Government to recognise the positive effect that responsible and sustainable investment practices can have on the economy, the environment and society as a whole.
