The motion
That this House deplores the proposed job losses among BBC staff in Northern Ireland, taking place as a result of privatisation, through 'Market Testing', in the resources area; notes that the redundancies will affect more than 33 per cent. of the workforce in that area and mean the loss of technical and creative skills which, once gone, may be impossible to replace; is disturbed by the possibility that, against their Charter commitment to regional broadcasting, the BBC intend to produce Northern Ireland drama through BBC Scotland or RTE Dublin; and expresses concern that, with the recent history of terrorist infiltration of private security firms in the Province, the possible privatisation of security services within BBC Northern Ireland could threaten the personal security of those using BBC property.
