60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE TREATY OF ROME

The motion
That this House celebrates the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome; notes that the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community, the agreement's full name, was signed on 25 March 1957 by Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany and brought about the creation of the European Economic Community when it came into force on 1 January 1958; welcomes the fact that the EU has since expanded across Europe bringing peace, freedom, stability and prosperity to the continent; recognises that the strength of the EU lies in its member states choosing to work together to address their shared objectives; and looks forward to all parts of the UK working positively and constructively with our EU partners in the future.
