CONDEMNATION OF THE RAPE CLAUSE

Tabled by Alison Thewliss (Scottish National Party) 20 signatures

The motion

That this House welcomes that the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) and the British Medical Association (BMA) have recently condemned the Government's two child restriction in universal credit and child tax credits, and specifically the associated non-consensual sex exemption, known as the rape clause; understands that the BMA has offered to support members if they do not wish to comply with the third party referral mechanisms; notes that COSLA fundamentally opposes the two child limit and the non-consensual sex exemption; and calls on the Government to scrap the two child restriction.
