OPPOSITION ATTITUDE TO EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

The motion
That this House notes with amazement the cynicism of Her Majesty's Opposition in being all things to all men on Europe; records with astonishment the inconsistencies of the Leader of the Opposition, who in 1983 `wanted out of the Common Market', by 1988 saw `nil prospects for withdrawal', and in 1991 has responded variously to proposals for economic and monetary union - in June with an undertaking not to sign up, but by 30th October with an apparent conversion to unqualified support; and calls on Her Majesty's Opposition to clarify its position.
