The motion
That this House congratulates the University Café, one of the most famous establishments of Glasgow's West End, on reaching its 100th anniversary; notes that the famous Scots-Italian café, and later affiliated chip shop, was founded by ship's carpenter Alfredo Verrecchia in 1918 and has been run by the same family, now in its fourth generation, ever since; appreciates the important role this local café has played in Glasgow's culture and in bringing members of the community together, having served multiple generations of Glaswegians tea, fish suppers, legendary milkshakes, ice cream and sweets; and looks forward to the owners and patrons having the opportunity to celebrate this well loved institution throughout the coming year and in the years to come.
