The motion

That this House recognises 9 May 2018 as Europe Day, the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration in 1950, in which Robert Schuman set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe; further recognises the importance of the European Union in ensuring peace in Europe; regrets the Government's decision to leave the EU Single Market and Customs Union with no guarantee of further cooperation with Europe; further regrets the Government's decision to rescind the European citizenship of UK citizens post-Brexit, removing the range of rights and protections afforded to individuals as EU citizens that are also integral to a person's European identity; notes that many of those rights are closely linked to the UK's membership of the single market; and calls on the Government to ensure that the UK's membership of the single market and UK citizens' rights to EU citizenship are retained in the event that the UK leaves the EU.
