The motion
That this House recognises that dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK and has higher health and social care costs than cancer and chronic heart disease combined; acknowledges the heartbreak and misery caused by this disease and notes that by 2025 one million people in the UK will have dementia; applauds charities such as Alzheimer's Research UK and Alzheimer's Scotland who work tirelessly in raising issues around dementia, providing crucial help and support for people with dementia as well as funding vital medical research to bring about the first life-saving treatments for dementia; notes that Alzheimer's Research UK is launching a Dementia Access Taskforce to examine issues around the preparedness of the NHS for future treatments for dementia so that they can reach the people who so desperately need them as soon as possible; and supports the work of such endeavours, particularly during Dementia Action Week which runs from 21 to 27 May 2018.
