ARGYLL AND BUTE SCHOOL PUPILS STRIKE (No. 2)

That this House acknowledges the mature and proportionate way in which school pupils from Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh, Oban High School, Campbeltown Grammar, Lochgilphead High School, Tarbert Academy and Dunoon Grammar School in Argyll and Bute protested against the council's swingeing cuts to youth services by organising a 15-minute strike on Wednesday 20 February; recognises the strength of feeling among young people in Argyll and Bute that the services they rely on most should be protected; appreciates the complexities of organising and co-ordinating this protest across such a vast geographic area, involving six different school campuses; further recognises the role played by Rosie Sumsion of Hermitage Academy and Cameron Garrett of Lochgilphead Joint Campus in bringing pupils together across the six schools; congratulates all those who took part in this peaceful demonstration of pupil power on having the courage to speak out for what they believe in; and is delighted that Argyll and Bute is home to such politically active and socially aware young people.
