The motion
That this House commends the pioneering Drug Diversion Scheme initiative introduced by Thames Valley Police which aims to provide a gateway to treatment for those with drug misuse problems; welcomes the progressive approaches to drug policy advocated by Police and Crime Commissioners in Durham, North Wales and the West Midlands; applauds the efforts of the Law Enforcement Action Partnership as advocates for evidence-based policies with a public health focus, rather than relying on the failed, dangerous and expensive pursuit of punitive drug policies; and calls on the Government to accept the advice of such experienced professionals in shaping a drugs policy which can cut crime, reduce harm and promote health, instead of perpetuating a dangerous and detrimental drugs policy which forever leaves the drugs market in the hands of organised crime.
