ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS NEUTRAL STANCE ON ASSISTED DYING

Tabled by Jim Shannon (Democratic Unionist Party) 9 signatures

The motion

That this House notes the decision of the Royal College of Physicians to drop their official opposition to assisted dying and instead to adopt a neutral stance; reiterates its concern that legislation of this nature places very ill people in a vulnerable position and further highlights the importance of the Hippocratic Oath that places a duty on physicians to do no harm; notes that 25 per cent of members opted out of responding to the survey and calls on the Royal College to reconsider their position and reinstate their opposition to assisted dying in the UK.
