The motion
That this House congratulates the Commonwealth Institute and its predecessor on a hundred years of service to the nation and to the Commonwealth of Nations; recognises the significant contribution it has made to the appreciation in the world of the values of democracy, good government, tolerance among people, co-operation and consultation, and the finding of peaceful solutions to problems; believes that the Institute's work in education is a constant reminder throughout our school system of the realities and values of today's Commonwealth; is encouraged to find that the Commonwealth Institute is developing better and more attractive ways of illustrating these values for people in this country and especially our children; observes that the Institute brings the reality of the individual countries of the Commonwealth alive and demonstrates the role the Commonwealth can play in the world; and looks keenly to the future so that the Institute can continue to develop understanding of the Commonwealth and by so doing to prove to the world the true worth of an organisation which, if it maintains its level-headed and practical approach to the world's problems, great and small, will remain an effective force for good far into the future.
