INTERNATIONAL WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY

That this House joins workers, trade unions and communities in commemorating Workers’ Memorial Day on 28 April 2019; welcomes that Workers’ Memorial Day is commemorated throughout the world and is officially recognised by the UK Government; expresses concern that more people are killed at work than in wars every year; calls on the Government to pursue stricter enforcement of health and safety laws; recognises that a strong trade union movement is vital for workers’ rights in the UK; expresses good wishes to those participating in the Workers’ Memorial Day 2019 commemorations at the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge; and welcomes the work of the North Lanarkshire Trade Union Council in organising the annual commemorations at Summerlee in Coatbridge.
