RELOCATION OF PARLIAMENT

That this House believes that the interests of the British people would be better served by constructing a new, purpose-built Parliament in the midlands or the north of the country rather than moving back into the existing Palace of Westminster after it has been refurbished; considers that having the political and commercial centre in the same location has contributed to disproportionate and unfair public funding for services and infrastructure, which has in turn contributed to a substantial rise in inequality; notes that a Parliament in the midlands or the north of the country would help parliamentarians to have a more rounded view of the country that they are supposed to represent; and recommends turning the Palace of Westminster into a museum of democracy.
