OFCOM PLANS FOR HIGHER RURAL BROADBAND COSTS

Tabled by Jonathan Edwards (Independent) 18 signatures

The motion

That this House opposes Ofcom proposals allowing BT to raise upfront costs on rural consumers accessing the Openreach network as a subsidy for the roll out of high-speed fibre broadband; calls on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to rule out penalising rural broadband consumers with higher network access costs in rural areas; and supports parity of rural and urban broadband costs for consumers throughout the transition towards high-speed fibre broadband.
