That this House recognises the great work that the domestic staff at NHS hospitals do; acknowledges the wider role that these employees have in patient care by keeping a hospital environment clean and safe; notes the market testing of contracted services currently being undertaken at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust; further notes the potential impact outsourcing can have on altering an employee’s existing contractual arrangements with the Trust and the uncertainty that this market testing brings on job security; recognises that outsourcing this service can lead to different standards of cleaning and hygiene being maintained; and therefore supports the keeping of domestic services in-house at the Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital in Harlow, Essex.
