SCOTTISH BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS WEEK

The motion

That this House recognises that Scottish Breastfeeding Awareness Week began on 2 June 2019; notes that the theme this year is in support of skin to skin contact; welcomes the Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland report which was published during Scottish Breastfeeding Awareness Week; notes the findings of the report that support for breastfeeding in Scotland has been rated highly by an expert group looking at provision across the country; welcomes the eight recommendations published in the report to drive further improvement; notes that these include ensuring that families have equal access to relevant information on feeding their baby, promoting a supportive return to work and strengthening breastfeeding messages across Scotland; appreciates that some work has already been done on strengthening messages; further welcomes that the Scottish Government have announced a new national Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland Scheme logo to be displayed by businesses and organisations across Scotland; and thanks staff, volunteers and all those supporting breastfeeding across Scotland.
