The motion
That this House recognises that the Council of Europe through its youth centres and European Youth Foundation has for many years made a major contribution to the education and development of the UK's young people, providing a whole field of education for democracy and human rights, for holocaust remembrance and the prevention of crimes against humanity, while allowing for experience through participation in representative democracy and debate in international gatherings, resulting in intercultural understanding and acceptance; notes with concern the contingency plan promulgated by the Council's General Secretary on 3 May 2019 proposing a diminution in the Council's youth sector activities that in future are to be rolled out under what is described as an enlarged partial agreement; and urges the UK's representatives to the Council of Europe to vigorously oppose all measures that would reduce or weaken the Council's vital work in the fields of youth and education.
