Tabled by Mr Barry Sheerman (Labour (Co-op))

The motion
That this House condemns the resumption of commercial whale hunting by Japan; notes that the consumption of whale meat in Japan has fallen significantly in recent years and that demand for that meat is very low; believes that whaling is cruel and damaging to the planet's ecosystem; is concerned by the precedent that Japan has set in withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC); and urges the Government to take diplomatic action to press Japan to end whaling for commercial purposes and to rejoin the IWC to conserve whales for future generations.
