The motion

That this House commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic; salutes the bravery and the courage of the Royal Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy, the United States Navy and the Merchant Navy with other Allied merchant shipping personnel, and the RAF coastal command with Allied Air Forces; recognises the loss of over 70,000 sailors and seamen, with the loss of thousands of merchant vessels, warships and aircraft; and further recognises that the Battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, running from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany 1945, providing food and supplies to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and maintaining the democratic process and freedom enjoyed today.
