SCOTTISH ADJACENT WATERS BOUNDARIES ORDER 1999

That this House believes that the UK Government should rescind the Scottish Adjacent Waters Boundaries Order 1999; notes that, under this regulation, 15,000 square kilometres of Scottish waters, as agreed in the Continental Shelf (Jurisdiction) Order 1968, were transferred unilaterally from Scottish to UK jurisdiction; understands that this was carried out on 13 April 1999, just weeks before the Scottish Parliament was established, without being debated in the House of Commons and without any consultation; further understands that this annexation of Scottish waters and seabed gives the UK Government jurisdiction over resources such as fishing, oil, gas and other minerals in that sector, which includes the Auk, Catcher, Clyde, Curlew, Fulmar, Janice, Judy, Leven, Medwin and Orion oilfields; and calls on the Government without delay to rescind the Order which would be a respectful and symbolic way of recognising the 20 year anniversary since the creation of the powers granted to the Scottish Parliament.
