BBC’S CRITICISM OF NAGA MUNCHETTY

Tabled by Clive Lewis (Labour) 51 signatures

The motion

That this House condemns the perverse decision by the BBC complaints unit to criticise presenter Naga Munchetty for criticising the racist language of US President Donald Trump; notes that President Trump's comments, telling Democratic representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley, who are all US citizens, to go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came, caused outrage across the world; believes that the condemnation of such divisive and hateful rhetoric is not a matter of mere personal opinion but an essential democratic duty; and calls on the BBC to urgently reverse that verdict and defend the right of all journalists and broadcasters to reject blatant racism wherever it is expressed.
