The motion
That this House supports the Ulster-Scots Language Week being held by Derry City and Strabane Council in the last week of November; notes this week-long initiative is led by the Ulster-Scots Agency to promote the language which, along with Irish, is one of the indigenous languages of the region; believes this week-long event will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Ulster-Scots language in what has been declared by UNESCO as the Year of Indigenous Languages; recognises that Ulster-Scots is spoken, written and understood by 140,000 people in Northern Ireland; and welcomes this week-long celebration in November as a great way for the community to get behind and celebrate Northern Ireland and Scotland's shared linguistic heritage.
