The motion

That this House recognises the challenges and opportunities presented by an ageing population; welcomes the Government’s ageing society grand challenge mission of citizens enjoying five more years of healthy, independent living by 2035 while narrowing the gap between the experience of the richest and the poorest; recognises the contribution that The Physiological Society’s report, Growing Older, Better, can make into the role that a better understanding of physiology could play in meeting the Government’s target; notes the report’s recommendations on promoting current physiological insight, funding for further research on the common mechanisms underpinning ageing and pathophysiology, promoting physiological insight in interdisciplinary working and establishing public health messaging on healthy ageing; and congratulates all those involved in the report for their work in proactively engaging with that large and growing health and social care challenge.
