NHS Louisa Jordan, Glasgow

That this House welcomes the announcement by the Scottish Government that the temporary NHS Scotland medical facility being established at the Scottish Events Campus in Glasgow in response to the coronavirus pandemic is to be called NHS Louisa Jordan; notes that Sister Louisa Jordan was born in Maryhill, Glasgow, in 1878 and having worked in Shotts Fever Hospital and as a Queen’s nurse in Buckhaven, Fife, joined the war effort in December 1914; further notes that she travelled to Serbia and served troops affected by typhus and was killed by the disease on 6 March 1915, age 36; recalls that she is buried in Chela Kula Military Cemetery; notes that the courage and sacrifice of Louisa Jordan and her colleagues are commemorated in an annual service at Kraguievac in Serbia; believes the decision to name the new hospital after her is a fitting tribute and will serve as an inspiration to many people; and thanks everyone involved in the construction and operation of the facility and in the caring of people affected by coronavirus in the NHS and in wider society.
