The motion
That this House notes the impact of Covid-19 on veterinary practices; recognises that veterinary practices are not only local businesses but essential services in communities; further recognises that veterinary practices are vital to maintaining the food supply chain and provide lifesaving care and treatment to animals; notes that the British Veterinary Association has warned that veterinary practices are facing severe financial difficulties from not qualifying for business rates relief and an inability to furlough staff due to the critical nature of their work; expresses its concern that some veterinary surgeons who are directors or joint venture partners do not qualify for support through the current Self-employment Income Support Scheme; and urgently calls on the Government to take action to introduce a package of financial support for veterinary practices.
