Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise

The motion

That this House recognises the outstanding contribution to the communities of East Ayrshire by Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise, who for the last seven years have provided sports and recreational facilities which have improved the physical and mental wellbeing of the community; notes with great sadness the recent sudden death of Eric Bennett an inspirational, dedicated volunteer and founding Trustee whose vision, commitment and energy led to the formation and continuing success of the Enterprise; recognises the successful partnership and association with Cumnock Juniors Football Club which has enabled the development and sustainability of football teams of all ages and enables high levels of sporting excellence to be achieved; notes the range of physical activities available in their Community Sports Programme including girls' football, netball, basketball, cheerleading, futsal and mini-kickers; the provision of sport in local primary schools and successful walking football for those of over 50 years of age; recognises the contribution of Mhairi McWilliam, Derek King and especially that of the 60 local volunteers including those, who during the continuing covid-19 pandemic, working together with East Ayrshire Council staff, have established a community resilience and Food Larder project which has delivered almost 600 emergency food packages to those who are shielding, self-isolating, or vulnerable; and recognises the contribution of Councillor Jim McMahon and Councillor Jacqui Todd of East Ayrshire Council for their exceptional commitment and support of this project.
