Pipers tribute to heroes of WWII

That this House recognises the ceremonies that took place across Scotland and and in other countries on 12 June 2020 to honour the Scottish soldiers of the battle of Valéry-en-Caux 80 years on; notes that the battle took place in June 1940 when 10,000 mostly Scottish Soldiers were captured after being left to defend the port after the evacuation of Dunkirk; understands the soldiers were part of the 51st Highland Division; further notes that over 500 pipers across the world played in honour of the soldiers; acknowledges those people with a direct link to the battle, including East Lothian resident Valery Heywood whose father Ian Hutchon served with the 1st Lothians and Border Yeomanry as an intelligence trooper during WWII, was taken prisoner at St Valéry-en-Caux and remained a prisoner until the end of the war; and applauds the local, national and global efforts to take part in the tribute to honouring the soldiers and their families.
