The motion
That this House notes the disparaging and derisory comments made by the Prime Minister during Prime Minister’s Questions on 1 July 2020 in relation to Scotland’s coronavirus public health planning; rejects the Prime Minister’s inaccurate description of the Scottish Government as an administration; further rejects in the strongest of terms the Prime Minister’s assertion that there is no such thing as a border between England and Scotland; highlights that his language has roundly been perceived and reported as divisive and pejorative towards the Scottish Government and the people of Scotland; and calls on the Prime Minister to apologise for offending the people of Scotland with his use of language; acknowledges the importance of the codes of honour and good faith that underpin democratic institutions across the UK; and to reassert publicly, the claim of right for Scotland as first set out in the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320, and endorsed by this House as recently as January 2020.
