The motion

That this House recognises the remarkable achievements of internationally renowned feminist, the late Emma Ritch who was executive director of Engender, Scotland’s feminist policy and advocacy organisation; notes that her professional and voluntary work roles over a number of years included Chair of the Board of Trustees at Human Rights Consortium Scotland, Chair of Rape Crisis Scotland, Fellow of the RSA; Member of the Scottish Women's Budget Group, Vice Chair of Close the Gap, Scotland Committee Member of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Trustee of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, Member of the National Advisory Council on Women and Girls and in 2019 she was inducted into the Saltire Society Outstanding Women of Scotland; further notes that her work was recognised internationally by the UN and the EU including in association with CEDAW and she was a Board Member of the European Women's Lobby; recognises that her commitment to intersectionality and understanding of the importance of reaching out to others who hold a different point of view was outstanding; and further notes that continuing her work on gender mainstreaming and on all other aspects of women’s equality is the most appropriate way to honour her legacy.
