Republic of Barbados

That this House welcomes the decision by the people of Barbados to become a republic and wishes the new president Dame Sandra Mason every success in developing Barbados as a successful, democratic and ambitious nation while still remembering and being aware of the island’s colonial history; and praises the citizens of Barbados for taking this step on the 55th anniversary of the nation’s independence from the United Kingdom.
