The motion
That this House notes the contribution the UK design sector makes to economic, cultural and social development across the entire country; celebrates the positive economic contribution design makes to the UK economy and its associated relationship to sustainable growth; believes that design can be used to address some of society’s most urgent challenges including climate change; notes that that 80 per cent of the environmental impact of products is determined at the design stage and that 45 per cent of required reduction in global greenhouse gases need to come from everyday products; therefore calls on the Government to support the development of environmentally friendly practices in the design industry and to work closely with relevant industries to support good practice in the design stage of products so that the UK is a global leader in environmentally friendly design.
