Housing in West Yorkshire

The motion

That this House recognises the lack of housing across England; notes the particular shortage of social housing and housing association in West Yorkshire and Huddersfield; expresses concern at the consequent impact on vulnerable individuals such as domestic abuse victims forced to remain in abusive situations due to lack of suitable emergency accommodation; further notes the inability of large families to gain suitable properties for their families; recognises the local authority provided housing availability in Kirklees is 322, or 1.1 per cent of Local Authority capacity, and that simultaneously there are 5,952 available properties in Kirklees, but only 5.4 per cent of these are Local Authority properties; regrets that many individuals are on the housing register for years and cannot access social housing; calls on the Government to create urgent availability for emergency accommodation and increases funding for social housing in Kirklees and West Yorkshire.
