The motion

That this House notes the struggle of the Saharawi people for the right of self-determination through a free and fair, democratic referendum, organised by the United Nations as contained in the United Nations settlement plan Resolutions 658/90 and 690/91; urges the British Government and the Secretary General of the United Nations to bring to bear the maximum pressure on Morocco to show flexibility and courage by accepting the census completed by Spain in 1974 and to reduce its military presence to the level requested by the United Nations, release all political prisoners and the exchange of prisoners of war and allow independent observers and media to visit the occupied territory of the Western Sahara to do whatever possible to prevent the return of a war which will be not in anyone's interest; and urges the British Government to send a fact-finding mission to the region to ensure that observers from this House will be observing the referendum.
