The motion
That this House celebrates the unveiling of a plaque at Cupar’s Castle Hill commemorating Sir David Lindsay of the Mount, Cupar (c.1486-1555) and his play Ane Satyre of the Three Estaitis; remembers Sir David Lindsay as Scotland’s first and for many people greatest dramatist; notes the plaque is placed in the location of the first performance of his famous play in 1552; further celebrates Ane Satyre of the Three Estaitis as the greatest Scottish medieval play, satirising the country’s corrupt institutions the nobility, the burgh merchants, and particularly the clergy; further notes that it laid the ground work for the reformation in Scotland; remembers the importance of satire and the arts in fostering democracy and culture; and commends the work of Three Estates Cupar in commemorating Sir David and his works.
