The motion
That this House congratulates all those from Busby Girls AFC who attended Hampden Park on Sunday 28 May for the historic Scottish Cup Final between Celtic FC Ladies and Rangers FC Ladies, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the Scottish Football Association; notes the game was the first-ever Women’s Cup Final to be played at Hampden Park and that Busby Girls AFC sent an impressive group of over 100 players to watch the game, 11 of whom were selected to line up on the pitch prior to kick off; understands that Busby Girls AFC has grown rapidly to the point where they now have around 150 players after less than 12 months since being launched by Busby AFC; recognises Busby’s proud footballing history with Thomas Donohoe, originally from Riverside Terrace, Busby, who moved to Brazil and organised the first ever football match to be held in the country, being subsequently honored with a statue in Rio de Janiero and referred to as ‘the father of Brazilian football’; and applauds the significant and continued efforts going into continuing the tradition of football participation in Busby, including the exceptional efforts of the club to increase participation in girls football in East Renfrewshire.
