The motion
That this House congratulates Friends of Campsie High Kirk in Lennoxtown on becoming the first community organisation in the UK to take ownership of an A-listed heritage building through the King’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer’s Ownerless Property Transfer Scheme; recognises their commitment and courage in taking on the challenge of restoring a derelict landmark; commends their plans to transform the Kirk into a hub for wellbeing, culture and tourism; notes that the project will deliver lasting community benefit by creating new opportunities for learning, volunteering and local enterprise; acknowledges that their achievement reflects the skill, professionalism and persistence of the team and partners involved, as well as the strength of community spirit in Lennoxtown and East Dunbartonshire; and wishes the Friends of Campsie High Kirk every success as they continue their pioneering work to restore the building and deliver lasting social and economic benefit to the area.
