The motion

That this House recognises and honours the contribution made by people from India, South Asia and other Commonwealth nations in the First and Second World Wars; acknowledges that these efforts contributed significantly to the Allied war effort; notes that despite this scale of service and sacrifice, the story of many of these individuals of Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Christian faith who fought for Britain from an undivided India remains under-represented in remembrance ceremonies, and that initiatives such as the campaign by Mission Marigold seek to ensure further recognition of Indian soldiers, including the 74,000 who died in the First World War and the 87,000 who died in the Second World War, who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and peace; welcomes the symbol of the marigold, adopted to purposely accompany the poppy to mark the service of the 1.4 million Indian soldiers in the First World War and 2.5 million in the Second World War; calls for a renewed commitment to remembering all who served in the First and Second World Wars, including those from Britain, the Commonwealth and beyond; and pays tribute to all veteran organisations in Britain and across the Commonwealth nations for their enduring work in preserving this legacy.
