Convention on Cluster Munitions and preventing UK involvement in their production

Tabled by James MacCleary (Liberal Democrat) 40 signatures

The motion

That this House supports the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), prohibiting all use, transfer, production, and stockpiling of cluster munitions; recognises the indiscriminate nature of cluster munitions; expresses grave alarm at the way in which these munitions contribute to large civilian death tolls; further recognises the enduring socio-economic challenges which the use of cluster munitions often generate, including the creation of submunitions that fail to explode upon impact and become de facto landmines; welcomes the UK Government's ongoing status as a party to the CCM; calls on the Government to reaffirm its enduring commitment to the CCM; and further calls on the Government to take all steps to ensure that no UK-based manufacturers are involved in the production of cluster munitions.
